Wonderless: A Novel
Born into the aftermath of 9/11, as his parents flee their own ghosts, Little Man bounces around NYC until he, along with his "boys" drop out of their Hell's Kitchen high school--at which point they don't fall through the cracks but ascend through them.
Led by Little Man and Moses, the "big man" on the basketball team, the gang sleeps by day, by night colonizing the fire escapes behind their homes--until they hear of a band of girls who've colonized the trees of Central Park.
And so begins a pursuit that takes them into the mysterious society of women in the trees of the park, onto the east-side bridges, across the Verrazano, and onward, embarking upon an epic cross-country pilgrimage, boys and girls meeting to wreak havoc at iconic American sites, separating, and continuing on to their final rendezvous atop the Golden Gate Bridge.
"A roadtrip unlike any other, one that rolls inexorably across the continent toward its exhilarating and haunting final pages." --David Stenson, author of Warnings Against Myself
